About TMHA
Thornton Minor Hockey Association (TMHA) is a Local League centre, which participates within the Simcoe Region playing loop. Simcoe Region is the governing body for our centre, teams, Coaches, and Players registered under TMHA. The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) is the Governing body for Simcoe Region. The OMHA provides Simcoe Region with the playing guidelines for Local League hockey only.
Local League is a collection of centres that do not offer in house hockey for their residents at one or all playing levels. TMHA Board is the governing body for our teams, Coaches and players who register with us for the current playing season. Our Board meets on a regular basis and all meetings are open to our members, all meeting dates are posted in the Thornton Community Centre.
Thornton Minor Hockey provides its residents Local League Hockey only; we are governed by New Boundary agreements with Essa, Barrie and Innisfil Minor Hockey. For those players who wish to try-out for representative hockey you should check the association of interest website for further information. Rep centre participation is based on where you pay your taxes:
* If you are a Barrie resident, your Rep centre is Barrie.
* If you are a Thornton resident and live east of the 11th line of Essa your Rep can be either Innisfil or Essa.
* If you are a Thornton resident and live west of the 11th line of Essa your Rep centre is Essa.
* If you are a Cookstown resident, your Rep centre is Innisfil.
Who qualifies as a playing resident for Thornton Minor Hockey? We are governed by OMHA approved boundaries, these boundaries do not reflect municipal boundaries and are as follows:
* Thornton residents located in the town boundaries.
* Barrie residents located south of Ardagh Road East to the 400.
* Cookstown residents located in the town boundaries.
* Essa residents located West of highway #27 to county road 10 to the Cookstown, Thornton and Barrie boundaries as indicated above.
All home games and practices are played at the Thornton Community Centre. Game and practice times are made available at the beginning of the year and posted in the Thornton Community Centre.
All teams from Novice to Midget consist of two playing age groups, Atom for example is comprised of 9 and 10 year old players. Local League does not offer minor major hockey groupings.
Our playing season begins in early October and runs through to the end on March at the conclusion of play-offs. All participating teams regardless of regular season standings qualify for the play-offs unless impacted by the Simcoe Region team balancing rule..
On a final note, all parent concerns should be directed to the TMHA Board in writing and signed or delivered in person at a regular Board meeting in order to be dealt with.
You can contact the organization on our website at

We all look forward to an exciting playing season for our players, Coaches and parents alike.
